About the event

Northeastern Illinois University is now accepting applications for our fall 2024 Literacy Tutoring program at the University Center of Lake County! 

Northeastern Illinois University's Literacy Center is currently accepting applications for its Fall 2024 Tutoring Program. Students in grades 2 through 12 reading below grade level and/or experiencing reading difficulties are eligible for participation. Participating students receive an in-depth diagnosis of reading difficulties and individualized instruction to improve reading skills. The tutors are graduate students enrolled in an advanced degree program to become Reading Specialists or earn a Reading Teacher Endorsement. All assessment and instructional sessions are supervised by a Literacy Education faculty member.

Who?

  ● Students in grades 2-12 who are reading below grade level are eligible to apply

 When? 

● Saturday mornings 

9:00-10:30 am OR 10:45-12:15 pm

 ● Sessions start September 21st and end on November 23rd (10 total 90-minute sessions) 

Where?

 ● Sessions will take place at University Center of Lake County - 1200 University Center Dr,  Grayslake, IL

 Participating Students Receive

● In-depth assessment of reading difficulties and targeted, individualized, one-to-one  instruction to develop skills and strategies in the areas of word recognition, comprehension,  fluency, vocabulary, and spelling .

Tuition Cost

 ● The program cost is $100 per child. Tuition costs are being waived for the first 10 qualifying  families who apply! Additional scholarships available for qualifying families.

● All tutors are licensed K-12 teachers pursuing a Reading Teacher Endorsement or additional  Reading Specialist license at NEIU ● Because our tutoring is part of a graduate program that leads to state licensure, punctual and  consistent attendance on behalf of participating children is essential!
