From its humble beginnings as the state’s second teachers college — founded in 1869 with a dozen academic departments and an inaugural class of 143 — Southern Illinois University Carbondale now ranks among Illinois’ most comprehensive public universities.

At the University Center

SIUC’s University Center offerings are drawn from their College of Applied Sciences and Arts, College of Education and Human Services, and College of Engineering.

SIUC has an office in the University Center’s Grayslake facility, staffed by SIUC Program Advisor Susana Figueroa.  You may reach her at (847) 665-4152 or sfigueroa@siu.edu Dr. Griff Powell, SIU’s Site Coordinator for the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education program and the new Bachelor of Science in Special Education program, also has a Grayslake office and he can be reached at gpowell@siu.edu or (847) 665-4149.

At Great Lakes Naval Training Center

SIUC also has offices at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and runs programs there that are counted as part of their University Center offerings.
