Open House to Showcase Grad & Undergrad Degrees Available through University Center of Lake County
Adults who have been thinking about finishing a bachelor’s degree, earning a master’s degree, or seeking a professional development certificate, should plan to attend the University Center Open House on Thursday, March 20 from 6 - 8 pm at the University Center's Grayslake facility (1200 University Center Drive). In one visit, they can learn about more than 100 degree and certificate programs, meet university program representatives, and maybe even win some cash.
Free Workshop for K-12 Science Teachers
K-12 science teachers are invited to attend a free workshop to learn how to bring the excitement of NASA to their Earth Science classrooms.

NEIU Student Appointed to UC Governing Board
Northeastern Illinois University student Arbnora (“Nora”) Mena has been appointed to the University Center of Lake County’s Governing Board to represent the Center’s Student Advisory Council. Mena, a Lake Villa resident, is an undergraduate student majoring in Psychology. She anticipates finishing her degree in Spring of 2014.
EIU Honors Outstanding Adult Students at the University Center
Eastern Illinois University will induct seven Lake County students into the Alpha Sigma Lambda (ASL) Honor Society at the University Center of Lake County on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 7 p.m. All are adult students enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts in General Studies program that Eastern offers at the University Center. The ASL induction will take place at a reception celebrating the degree program’s 40th anniversary.

Grant from HFNLC to fund GSSW scholarships at the University Center
Dominican University's Graduate School of Social Work has received a $100,000 grant from the Healthcare Foundation of Northern Lake County to fund scholarships designed to support students who will meet a growing need in northern Lake County for bicultural and bilingual licensed social workers with the skills to serve the medical, behavioral and mental health needs of this increasingly diverse area.
Free Financial Aid Sessions Across Lake County
College applicants and their parents can get bilingual assistance to complete and submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at sessions across Lake County this winter. All sessions are scheduled in computer labs that enable the students to submit the application electronically upon completion.
Elmhurst College Admitted to University Center
Elmhurst College became a member of the University Center of Lake County in action taken by the Center’s Governing Board at their December 5, 2012 meeting. Elmhurst has joined the University Center to make its Master of Science in Supply Chain Management (MS-SCM) degree program more accessible to professionals in northeastern Illinois and southeastern Wisconsin. Recruiting for this new program will soon get underway.
University Center Receives Excellence Award
The University Center of Lake County received a Reflejos Reflecting Excellence Award in a ceremony held at Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates by Reflejos Publications, LLC on October 24, 2012. The award recognizes service to the Latino community and was bestowed in the Education category.

Summer Opportunities for Teachers at University Center
Teachers who want to spend part of their summer strengthening their professional skills can choose from a literacy conference or the coursework leading to a middle school endorsement this summer at University Center.
Six New Degrees Available at University Center
Six new degrees were added to the University Center of Lake County’s
program array via action taken by the Center’s Governing Board on March 14. Interests as diverse as
sustaining the natural environment, teaching preschool children with special needs, completing a BSN,
understanding the legal system, and tailoring K-12 classroom instruction to multiple student learning
styles are addressed by these new undergraduate or graduate programs.
University Center Adds New Programs for 2012
Three new programs were added to the University Center of Lake County for 2012 in action taken by the Center’s Governing Board at their December 7, 2011 meeting. Southern Illinois University Carbondale has added two undergraduate programs and Concordia University Chicago has added a graduate program.
Financial aid workshops to be offered throughout Lake County
College students and their parents can get help applying for college financial aid by attending a free FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Workshop, to be held at locations throughout Lake County from Jan. 14 to March 20.
Senator Edward D. Maloney Addresses SIUC Graduates
State Senator Edward D. Maloney was the commencement speaker last Saturday at a ceremony honoring the 16th cohort of adult students to earn the Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education at the University Center of Lake County through a program offered by Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
ISU Funded to Train Future Teachers of English Learners
Illinois State University’s College of Education is again the recipient of a grant to help Lake County paraprofessionals make the transition to certified teacher with Bilingual and English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) approvals.

New Documentary on Leopold Showing at University Center of Lake County
Join us September 20th at the University Center of Lake County for a screening of Green Fire
, the first full-length, high-definition documentary film ever made about legendary conservationist Aldo Leopold and his environmental legacy. Following the film, NEIU Associate Professor Daniel Milsky will lead a discussion of the ethics that Aldo Leopold evolved over his lifetime and their connection to today. He will be joined by NEIU graduate student Anja Claus, organizational coordinator of the Center for Humans and Nature, and by Trisha Steele, who has been an advocate of ecosystem restoration and a volunteer with Volo Bog and the Sierra Club Outings Group. We hope that a lively discussion will conclude the evening.

University Center Student Receives CLC Alumni Association Scholarship
WIU Becomes 19th Member
Western Illinois University (WIU) became the nineteenth member of the University Center of Lake County in action taken by the Executive Committee of the Center’s Governing Board on April 27, 2011. WIU will offer doctoral and education specialist programs in educational leadership.
Administrative Professionals Luncheon on April 27th
Dr. Judith Wright will be the keynote speaker at a luncheon co-hosted by University Center and the Greater Lakes Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals on April 27th. In addition to the buffet and the keynote speech, the event will include a panel of local experts and a table-top exposition by a variety of local vendors.
