For Faculty

Books
You may arrange to have textbooks shipped to us for you to distribute to your students.
Classrooms
You may rearrange the seating to meet your needs; however, please leave the room as you found it. White board markers, erasers and chalk are provided in each room. Please only use white board markers on white boards. If markers chalk or erasers are missing please notify receptionist.
Class Changes/Cancellations
Please let us know as soon as possible if there is any change in time, day or regular meeting schedule of your class so that we can make necessary arrangements regarding classroom and staff. This includes the cancellation of final class sessions, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, other holidays that the University Center does not observe, spring breaks, etc.
Computer Labs
The computer labs in 211, 111 & 311 (32 stations each) are assignable classrooms, available for classes that need to meet there for an entire term and for classes that only need to visit for a session or two. Contact Judy Lorenz (847/665-4006), as early as possible to reserve one. Please specify how you will be using it (for internet access, for using a Microsoft Office product, for using special software, etc.). The library includes a number of computers that may be used by faculty and students as an “open computer lab” unless in use for a library training program.
Copying and Printing
Available via a Quick Key system in the first floor student services area for class materials that should be billed back to your institution. Ask the receptionist for the appropriate Quick Key.
Emergency Closings & Weather closings
The University Center has a direct notification system in place to alert University Center students and faculty when there is an emergency or weather closing. Students and faculty may register to receive text messages or email or voicemail announcing any emergency that affects the University Center facilities in Chicago or Waukegan. To register, please use the form below.
We urge you to register for this service and to update your personal profile as your phone number or email address changes. Messages sent via this system will also appear on the University Center’s homepage.
To notify the Chicago area media, the Center also works with the Emergency Closing Center. Closing notification will be made via their website and:
- WBBM 780 AM
- WGN 720 AM
- CBS-TV Channel 2
- NBC-TV Channel 5
- ABC-TV Channel 7
- WGN-TV Channel 9
- WFLD-TV Channel 32
- CLTV Channel 39
Please look for announcements about the University Center of Lake County not the College of Lake County. Although we will undoubtedly coordinate with CLC, each institution will be making its own closing decisions.
Faculty Lounge
There is a faculty lounge on the third floor behind the library. It includes one desk with a computer (with internet access and Microsoft Office products) and a telephone. You must dial 9 to access an outside line. Please limit non-University Center related calls. There is also a microwave and a refrigerator as well as several other desks and tables & chairs. Please make yourself at home.
“Mobies”
The University Center has a few lockable mobile units that can be assigned to faculty members for a semester and that provide for storage of books and materials. You may also wheel them to your classroom when you are teaching. They will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Contact Judy Lorenz (847/665-4006) to reserve one.
Voice Mailboxes
Voice mailboxes are available to faculty teaching at the University Center. You may request one via the faculty contact form.
Faculty Contact Form
Please complete a faculty contact form and turn it in at the reception desk in either Grayslake or Waukegan. If you already have one on file, please update it to reflect your current term’s teaching schedule. It is important that Center staff know how to contact you.
Library
Please contact Trish Compton in the library if you have questions about library services available to you and your students: (847) 665-4011, pcompton [at] ucenter.org.
Technology
All classrooms have ceiling-mounted projectors and a podium with the following equipment: Resident PC (with Microsoft Office and Internet Access), Document Camera and VHS/DVD Player. Connections are available at the podium for laptop. There are explanatory handouts available in the first floor student services area and the third floor library. If you have any difficulties with the classroom technology, please dial 4008 on the house phone to reach help.
